Venefit® Radiofrequency Ablation (RF)

(Formerly known as VNUS® Closure)

Local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area. A thin catheter is then inserted into the vein through a small opening, using only a single needle puncture. The catheter delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse and seal shut.

RF can be performed in-office in less than one hour and the patient is encouraged to walk immediately afterwards. Benefits of this procedure include less pain, bruising, and complications and a faster improvement in a patients’ quality of life.

VenaSeal™ Closure System, a Next-Generation Chronic Venous Insufficiency Procedure

The VenaSeal procedure is the only non-tumescent, non-thermal, non-sclerosant procedure that is FDA-approved for use in the United States. It uses a specially formulated medical adhesive that closes the vein. The procedure is administered without the use of tumescent anesthesia, minimizing the need for multiple needle sticks. Patients also report minimal-to-no bruising post procedure.

Dr. Mackay is the first in Florida to perform this exciting new procedure, and he was involved in the clinical trials for this treatment.

Benefits of VenaSeal:

  1. Medical adhesive seals the vein closed
  2. Only one needle stick of numbing medicine
  3. No compression stockings needed after the procedure
  4. Less bruising than other varicose vein treatments

Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)

Similar to RF ablation, EVLT uses laser energy to collapse the vein. EVLT is performed in less than 30 minutes and the patient may resume most normal activities immediately.

This procedure is performed to close off the incompetent perforating vein that is feeding the varicose veins. A small stitch is used to ensure the closure of the vein. Typically the procedure lasts 30 minutes.

Micro-Foam Phlebectomy

This procedure is a method of surgically removing varicose veins at the surface of the skin. A foamy solution is injected into the varicose vein to close and seal off the vein. Then small punctures, the size of pen points, are made next to the vein and sections of the vein are removed through these small nicks.

Micro-Foam Phlebectomy requires local anesthesia at the treatment area, and no stitches are required for this procedure. This technique is not similar to the old stripping process. Dr. Mackay’s own patented hook device is used for this procedure. Typically the procedure takes one hour.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

This specialized treatment is for the deeper veins that cannot be seen visually. A foamy or liquid sclerosing solution is injected directly into the deep veins while under ultrasound guidance. This allows veins that are below the surface of the skin to be treated. Since these veins cannot be seen visually, they would otherwise require surgical removal. This technique causes the vein to collapse and seal shut. Typically the sessions last 15-30 minutes.

Once placed inside the peripheral vasculature using a pin-sized entry through the skin, the tiny rotating tip of the ClariVein® catheter is set in motion inside of the vessel delivering medicine specified by your doctor. The use of Use of the ClariVein® does not require painful anesthesia and the procedure typically takes very little time and creates minimal discomfort.
