STEPS TO VEIN FREE LEGS

After your consultation and evaluation, Dr. Mackay may need to schedule you for an Ultrasound. Dr. Mackay will personally perform your ultrasound. This non-invasive diagnostic test will determine if you have an underlying problem (incompetent valves in the groin or behind the knee) which is likely the cause of your varicose veins.

Once Ultrasound has been performed a plan of treatment specific for your problem can be recommended.

If the Ultrasound does not demonstrate any abnormalities;
The next step will be Phlebectomy (surgical removal of veins) or sclerotherapy, depending on what is recommended by Dr. Mackay.

If the Ultrasound shows a leak (incompetent valve);
The next step will be "fixing the leak"
Alternatives for fixing the leak are as followed:

One of these will be needed before addressing the appearance of your veins. If both left and right incompetent, two separate procedures will be need to be scheduled. Once the underlying problem is taken care of, you may decide to address the appearance of your veins. Treatment needed following EVLT and RF vary. Usually, Dr. Mackay will suggest that you wait a couple months to see how things go. If the varicose veins are still present you may need Phlebetomy surgery or sclerotherapy; these services are not included or in anyway part of previous surgery.
